Determine the allegation
Review the stated offence and the conduct said to support it. Quantity alone does not answer every question about legal classification. The substance, laboratory findings, location, communications and other surrounding evidence may matter. A lawyer should distinguish what the papers allege from what the evidence actually establishes.
Search and laboratory records
Supply the search decision, seizure record and expert or laboratory reports. Details about the place where an item was found and who had access can be significant. The chain of documentation and attribution should be checked. A verbal description of a laboratory result is not a substitute for the full report.
Statements and detention
Earlier statements should be considered with the objective material. If there is a remand order or judicial control measure, its justification must be assessed separately from the underlying offence allegation. Health, treatment and personal circumstances may be relevant in the appropriate procedural context. No general statement about a fixed sentence or release outcome can replace that review.
Preparing the file
Arrange records in order and identify missing documents. Explain any relationship between persons mentioned in the file and any dispute about ownership or use. A defence application should address the concrete evidence and applicable rules. Publicly reported cases do not establish the outcome of a different case with different facts.

Common questions
Does a small quantity always mean a personal use case?
Classification is case specific and cannot be resolved by quantity alone.
Can treatment information be relevant?
It may be relevant depending on the allegation and procedural situation; provide the actual records for assessment.
